exciting updates from mannheim

So I made it here safe and sound. People were so super helpful. I had no idea what on earth I was going at the frankfurt airport in order to get to the train but I managed to make it! I actually got help from a mannheimer who had lived the past two years in canada. Then on my train I was sitting by some older folks from brampton. Canadians all over!!

1. The best part about germany so far: there is a sink in my room and the windows open completely wide open.

2. People here look completely normal and then they talk german and I am like oh yeah!!!

3. I still pretty much have no idea what I'm doing

4. I don't really want to eat at home because the kitchen is so messy. I have had to meals so far and neither at home. Döner for every meal? Yes please!

5. I live in an old army barracks and the floors are so gross. I think I am going to pull a Mr. Rogers and change shoes every time I come and go from the house.

6. I bought a small lamp for my room and it smells like curry.

7. Alcohol is so cheap!!! Perhaps 10 euros for 24. I saw a 6-pack of one my father would spend almost $3 on for 3 euros! I myself purchased a litre and a half of sangria for a euro fifty.

8. I can't work my friggen phone!

I had to clean the kitchen today... that's a whole story for another time.

exciting updates from toronto

so it's only been one flight - domestic at that and I already have so much to say

Number one
I'm gonna die with the lack of leg room

Number two
I panicked for like half the flight because I thought I lost my little baggie with my ipod shuffle charger that I bought like 2 days ago

Number three
I'm so friggen mad I forgot my rain coat - I'm never washing anything again

Number four
Worst takeoff ever. Like I have never experienced that much turbulence during a takeoff

Number five
As I was sitting and waiting for my flight in my seat there was myself by the window and an old man in the aisle - no middle person yet. Of course I'm praying there is no one sitting beside me but no such luck. As we wait though, this old man was an awake snorer. Like when he breathes he snores. I do it sometimes because I'm a deep breather and have issues from when I was a child but this was legit LOUD!

Number six
The guy sitting beside me was super weird. Like his lip was drooping and he had to keep a paper towel in his mouth the whole time to keep from drooling. I thought at first this guy was like diseased and that he was gonna puke or something. I cannot handle puke at all.

Number seven
I DIDN"T PUKE AT THE AIRPORT!!!!

Number eight
I drank and it made things a lot better

Number nine
Just spoke with my mother and she informed me I should take some pills and drink as much as I could - she's a terrible influence

Number ten
I am really thankful for free internet at the toronto airport - and a charging station

Number eleven
Someone should follow me with a camera because it's gonna be really funny watching carry all my crap from the airplane to the train

Number twelve
there are kids yelling right now and they are SOO loud

PS follow me on twitter now for more updates

musical

I hope you pronounced that the way the drama teacher pronounced it in high school musical.

"Musi-kal"

It's been the week of musicals for myself. Well I've just seen two but I've doubled the usual average of one per year.

I saw hairspray on sunday and let's just say it was funny. Not in the way that others found it funny, but funny in the way that I would laugh at others for thinking stuff was funny.

Another thing - the gentleman playing Link Larkin whose character is supposed to be in high school definitely had the nice birds nest hair style going on. No doubt he was decent, but I believe most people in high school have all their hair. Let's just say he was no Zac Efron.

Tonight I saw Wicked which was actually really good and there were parts that were truly funny. I highly recommend it.

There were two things that I felt worth mentioning that I spent some time thinking about during the musicals.

1. No matter what I always try to figure out which of the cast members are gay - and who is sleeping with who. Obviously it's not important but I always wonder if there is sexual tension between cast members spending so much time together.

2. Do the performers ever feel awkward singing so close to each other? Like can they smell each others breath? And can they even hear themselves? It must be so weird to hear the echo from the miked voice.

3. I have now made the resolution at every musical I want to be the person that people overhear and laugh at and think I'm crazy. I started to day by making comments like "I don't get it" Or being racists towards the green character. I just want to throw other people off their game and think I'm serious.

trip prep

So I'm going to germany on monday for quite some time and it was both SOO stressful but SOO exciting.

I have been really calm with all my trip preparations

I think there are a few things that I'm nervous about though.

Looking like a tourist
I hate looking like I don't know what I'm doing and I am a very proud person and I really like to figure things out for myself. This also has to do with the clothes that I'm wearing. I don't want people to think that I'm american. Thinking about that I definitely don't have any canada flag for my bags. Does anyone know if this will actually be a benefit?

What on earth do I bring?
I started packing and I didn't have as many clothes as I thought. I know I should bring more, but I'll go crazy if I do shopping...and I'll destroy H&M out there. I'm just really trying not to go overboard.

Taking the train when I arrive in frankfurt
I have never taking the train before. I don't know where to go in the airport. I will also by dragging a huge suitcase and gigantic backpack with me. People will be so frustrated with me. How do I communicate non-verbally that hey this is my entire 4 months that I live here.

Apparently we live in the ghetto
It's quite advisable not to walk around outside at night. The girls said that the place we live is nice but there are always cops around. I'm hoping that it's just one of those german person things where they like to be super secure.

Commiting cultural faux pas.
Again, related to the first part. I just don't want to stick out.

I think that if I end up staying in germany for a while I'm going to get a dog.

I had so much more that I was thinking about writing... but please just come visit!

anecdotes from august.

So I went to the MCC thrift shop on tuesday because I was looking for a new blazer, and I have been pretty decent in the finds before. They were also restocking everything and a while ago they received a rather large donation from myself as you recall. Finally all those things made it out onto the floor. It was so neat to see! - and a little bit emotional too. (I'm way to emotional about fabric). The coolest part was that I saw some people carrying my stuff around. I really appreciate that those clothes can make everything happy.

Remember how I talked about how much I hate tim hortons today - well I went. I had such an iced coffee craving and I really didn't want to break the bank. I was also already in the same parking lot. Dollar for size I think that starbucks is cheaper for iced coffee anyways.

I was watching wet hot american summer today - please do yourself a favour and watch it.

I hate when you can't tell whether or not someone is wearing glasses, and you have to squint and do a quadruple+ take.

Also, when you can't tell if someone is a lady or a man. Like truly cannot tell - not even a hunch
